MUSKI TRIPS Q&A

As a ski club, we love nothing more than getting out of the rat race and smashing the slopes! MUSKI ski trips are undoubtedly the best part of being a member, so keep reading to learn more about what we have to offer.

Which mountains do you ski at?

MUSKI runs multiple trips each year to our local Victorian mountains – Mt Buller, Hotham and Falls Creek. These mountains are only a couple of hours away from Melbourne CBD.

Do you run any international trips?

Finally - MUSKI is hosting their first international trip since the pandemic. We’re so excited to announce we will be heading to New Zealand in September 2024, keep an eye out on our socials for more information.

How many trips do you run?

This year we are running 10 ski trips and 2 racing trips. Keep an eye out on our social page for updates on trips!

How many spots are there on each trip?

The number of spots on each trip ranges between 20 to 50 people. We have over 350 spots in total so plenty of tickets to sell!

I haven’t skied before, can I still go on a trip? What if I want to snowboard?

No experience is needed to come on a trip. We've had heaps of members who have never seen snow before come on a ski trip and they absolutely loved it. Skiing is also fairly easy to pick up (it's similar to rollerblading and ice skating) and there will be a bunch of experienced skiers attending trips who can show you the ropes. We have a diverse range of skills among members and you will always find a couple of others who have a similar ability to you on a trip. And yes, you can definitely snowboard on a MUSKI trip!

I don’t know anyone from Muski but I want to go on a trip?

No worries! Many of our committee members knew no one from the club before going on their first trip. It’s a really good way to meet people and everyone is very welcoming and friendly, you’ll be sure to have a great time!

How long are the ski trips?

Our ski trips range from 2 to 7 nights. Week-long trips occur during university winter holidays (so don’t worry about missing class) and half-week/weekend trips are mostly run during weekends throughout the semester. HOW MUCH ARE THE SKI TRIPS?

Trip prices will be announced at the MUSKI Info Night, held around Week 5.

What does the ticket include?

The price includes accommodation, lift passes, return bus and social package. It does not include ski hire, lessons, food or drinks, however, some lodges may provide breakfast.

What is social price?

Social prices are designed for members who have already purchased a season pass for that mountain. This includes the Epic Pass (Hotham, Falls Creek) and the Ikon Pass (Buller, New Zealand).

These tickets include accommodation, return bus and social package.

What does the social package include?

The social package is a fee that covers MUSKI jugs at the pub, games, props and other things that we use on the trip.

What’s the go with ski hire?

MUSKI runs the cheapest ski hire in Victoria, so no stress if you don’t have any gear, we can sort you out with skis, boots, poles and a helmet! If you want to rent a snowboard, contact MUST at contact@mustsnowboard.com.au for hire. Prices for our ski hire can be found here: www.muski.org/ski-hire

Why are ski trips so expensive?

Skiing in general is a very expensive sport. We understand that Uni students aren’t made of money, so we do our best to keep trips as cheap as possible, however, COVID has dramatically affected the prices of lift tickets and accommodation which means we have to increase our ticket prices too. Try to look at MUSKI trips as an investment – you definitely won’t regret going on a trip!

I’m interested in racing, which trips should I go on?

This year we are running 2 racing trips – VIC IVs and Snow Nationals. Both trips will compete against other universities in events such as slalom, giant slalom, super giant, skier-cross, boarder-cross, and slopestyle. You must be currently enrolled as a University of Melbourne student to participate in either trip.

If you’re new to racing and just want to try it out, VICs is the trip for you! The racing is really fun and social so don’t feel pressured if you haven’t done it before. If you can ski down a blue run comfortably, you can attend VICs. Race during the day, ski with your mates after the events and party hard with 200 other students at night… what more could you want?

If you’re more experienced with racing and have competed before, then Snow Nationals is for you! Catered for more advanced skiers, Snow Nationals gives you the opportunity to represent UniMelb at a higher level. Previous racing experience is recommended and there is a qualification process in order to participate. Let’s claim that trophy!

Please email Cherry Xu at racing@muski.org to secure a spot. Any remaining tickets will be sold on trip sales day. If you have reserved a spot via email, further information regarding your place will be emailed to you.

Do I have to be a Unimelb student to buy a ticket?
